Amrita Puri is an Indian actress and model who mainly appears on stage and in Bollywood films. She is the daughter of Aditya Puri, Managing Director of HDFC Bank. She resides in Mumbai, India. She was born in 1983. After completing her post-graduation, Puri started her career through writing and doing theatre, with her first play being Quasar Thakore Padamsee’s English play View From The Stage and Scherazade Kaiokobad’s “Retellings” . For a year she did copywriting for advertising agency Ogilvy along with freelancing for lifestyle magazine. After getting her portfolio done by Dilip Bhatia, she started auditioning for movies and ad films. Soon she did her first ad for Kotex and later featured in ads and TV commercials for several brands, including People First, Garnier and L’Oreal.

After auditioning for few films, she finally landed with the role of Shefali Thakur in Aisha. She gained acclaim through the movie, which was dubbed as “India’s first chick flick”. It was loosely based on the Jane Austen novel Emma and its Hollywood adaptation Clueless. Her performance was described by leading critics as “heartwarming” (The Times of India), a “real surprise” (Press Trust of India) and “steals the film” (Rajeev Masand, CNN-IBN).

Post Aisha, she went back to do few plays including the M.E.T.A award winning play by Akvarious Productions The Interview (alongside Karan Pandit and Kashin Shetty), and Famous Last Words(alongside Sahil Jaffrey and Anish Trivedi).

Amrita was cast opposite Kunal Khemu in the lead role in Blood Money (2012), which gained decent critics reviews.

The first advertisement in which she featured was the one by Kotex which is brand of feminine hygiene products. Later on she appeared in numerous other advertisements namely,‘L’Oreal’, ‘People First’ and ‘Garnier’.

After auditioning for a number of films, she got her first role in the Hindi romantic comedy flick ‘Aisha’. Here she played the character of Shefali Thakur. She gained a considerable amount of recognition through this film which was supposedly India’s ‘first chick flick’. ‘Aisha’ was slightly based on ‘Emma’, the novel by Jane Austen and its English adaptation named ‘Clueless’.

Following ‘Aisha’, she carried on with her involvement in plays such as: ‘Famous Last Words’ featuring Anish Trivedi and Sahil Jaffrey and ‘The Interview’ (by Akvarious Productions) which had Kashin Shetty and Karan Pandit in its ranks.

After playing Shefali Thakur in ‘Aisha’, actress Amrita Puri made her comeback in the thriller film ‘Blood Money’, directed by Vishal Mahadkar which was released early this year. Here she portrayed the character of a contemporary girl named Arzoo.

‘Kai Po Che!’ would be Amrita Puri’s next upcoming project in 2013.
